File: BF3 style soundpack 1.18
Version: 0
Garrysmod.org URL: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=133768
Description: This is an updated version of a sound pack for Counter-Strike:Source that replaces the old, outdated gun sounds from 2004. Follow the installation instructions, and your guns should sound noticeably better in Counter-Strike. Also, a lot of the sounds that I intended to be more noisy came out being quieter. For this reason, I recommend using some form of sound equalizer to improve the audio.

To install this soundpack for CS:S, open the zip folder, then right click the folder called "weapons" and after right clicking, select "copy". Then, paste the folder called "weapons" into the folder called "sounds" which is somewhere in your steam directory. The directory should be something like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<your login name>\counter-strike source\cstrike\sound\

This should also work for Garry's mod if you install the soundpack in this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<your login name>\garrysmod\garrysmod\sound\

Once you've installed it, things should sound quite different. This always works on servers that you host, and it works on most dedicated servers. On some dedicated servers, either you will hear the old CS:S gun sounds, or your game will crash. In other words, if the gun pack doesn't work on a certain server, just don't play on it unless it's such a good server that it's worth uninstalling my awesome soundpack.

Disclaimer: Because all of these sounds were created by recording the in game sound scape in BF3, as well as from library sounds and miscellaneous prerecorded audio, I deny any intellectual or creative talent on my half. And for the same reason, I refuse any direct monetary gain from this sound pack.

All of the gunshots were made using BF3 library sounds, recordings from live BF3 gameplay, and the original CS:S gun sounds, edited in audacity (I might have snuck in some BO2 sounds as well). I also brought some sounds from Contamin's soundpack into Audacity to create the pull back and reload sounds.

Also, I might need someone to help me do the recordings in BF3. If you're interested, my Origin name is cssftw95.

Here's a list of tweaks and new features that I've added so far:

1.0
-Guns now have a distinctive, realistic 'pop' to them

1.1
-Fixed sound skipping for automatic weapons
-Better overall sound for machine guns, shotguns, and pistols
-Improved acoustics for reverb
-Now includes sounds for reload, bolt/slap pull, and pistol cock/slide
-More realistic sound for silenced gunshots

1.15
-Explosion sounds for grenades
-Louder gunshots
-Improved sound for C4 explosion and debris
-More noise and bass
-Significant improvement in reverb and accoustics
-More gunshot variety
-The MP5 finally works!

1.16
-Loudness is more consistent with gun type
-Cleaner reverb
-Hopefully the grenades don't sound like shit anymore. This soundpack has not yet been tested in game.
-Hopefully the longer reverb will cause sounds throughout the map to 'stack' thus producing noise and chaos.

1.17
-Audio tweaks for a few guns (M4a1, pistols, M249, and others)
-Much better grenades

1.17b
-Fixes and tweaks

1.18
-More fixes and tweaks, should be sounding a lot better now.
-More accutate pitch and sound

And here's what I plan to do in the future:

1.20 (Many of these advancements may require someone whose more skilled than me to make)
-Vocals for pain and death
-Better distinction between your gunshots/your friendlies, and the shots that are flying at you
-The addition of suppression and hit sounds
-Overall more frightening, aggressive sound scape

1.25
-Bullet hits for different materials
-Addition of footsteps, equipment shake, walking, and jumping sound
-Tweaks and fixes for previous pack
-More expansions that have not yet been conceived or announced

1.30
-???
