Hey i got L4D 2 and when i put the .NCF files in steamapps and the L4D 2 common in folder in common and start steam it just says downloading starting. I even tried to restart steam and even clicked play and it said steam servers are to busy to handle your request and NO i didn't put the common...

So if i dl bfbc2 or cod4 for example and if i put it in steamapps will steam detect it as a bought game without getting banned or using other clients?....also will i need cracked servers or i can play with regular steam servers?...thanks! and sorry if these questions have been answered.
