Frozen with apple icon when my iphone is upgraded with ios5

My friends recommended me to upgrade my iphone to ios5 since it is a good operating system. However, when I was upgrading it to ios5, it freezes with the apple icon. The connection to the computer to access the phone through itunes doesn’t work.

Haven't used iOS in a while but I'll try my best to help. Firstly I am assuming that the connection was fine before the upgrade so it isn't a fault with the wire, if that is the case then hold down the home button and lock button untill it enters recovery mode and attempt to restore the os though itunes. If the phone is jailbroken you will need to start the phone in dfu mode and right click the restore option in iTunes and restore an older version of the os before continuing to jailbreak again
