Activating Friends List

Hi,

What is the best way to go about activating a steam account's friend list? I want to play CODMW2 over LAN, not "Online."

Is the only way to buy a steam game?

you must have a game on your account. try these links they allow you to get 2 games free. this should let you add friends:
